Tips from Celebrate Recovery ® Attendees
- It's hard to separate our own expectations / fears / insecurities from the reality of such a new environment. Many people want to run after the first meeting. Come at least three times to give it a fair chance - to become comfortable and maybe start to recognize a few people as safe people for you.
- You'll be given a list of phone numbers or email addresses for the members in your small group. Use that list. For many of us, a simple phone call can produce anxiety. It doesn't have to be a perfect conversation the first time. We are all there to learn how to connect in healthy ways, and that takes time.
- Find a way to plug in. What skills or talents do you have to offer? Would you be willing to come early and help set up? Do you enjoy baking, or helping with the café desserts and snacks? Could you stay late and help clean up? Do you sing or play a musical instrument? Are you a prayer warrior? Whatever you have to offer, we have a place to use your gifts. Give yourself a reason to KEEP COMING BACK!
- Attend regularly. Be as consistent as possible. Not only does it help you, but it provides a stable environment for others. Just seeing a familiar face each week can aid in the healing experience.
- The people that get the most out of recovery are those that make connections, that volunteer and get involved and that come regularly! How much you get out of Celebrate Recovery ® depends on how much you put into it.
